DIY Dish Soap with Essential Oils

Dish soap. We all have it, we all use it. But….many dish soaps contain KNOWN carcinogens. While I’m trying to clean my dishes, I am actually leaving behind harmful residues. I do use my dishwasher daily (dishwashing soap recipe coming soon) but I have many items that are hand wash only. My skin, then, is directly absorbing these chemicals and toxins from my dish soap.

As I am on a quest to switch EVERYTHING in our home to being non-toxic, I always first look up recipes that contain essential oils. The recipe I am sharing today I got from but had to modify it a little bit.

You will need:

32 oz. Mason jar (mine was only 28 oz so I just cut everything down just a smidge when measuring)
1 1/2 cups liquid castile soap (I used Dr. Bronner’s baby unscented)
1 Tablespoon Vegetable Glycerin (I purchased this off Amazon)
3/4 Capful Thieves cleaner (I will talk about this cleaner in another post-basically it is the bomb!)
10 Drops Purification essential oil
10 Drops Citrus Fresh essential oil (I don’t currently have this, so I used Lemon EO instead. Lemon EO is a good degreaser)
Pinch of sea salt

All you do is put all the ingredients in the Mason jar and then fill it to the top with water and put a pump lid on it.
Boom! Safe, non-toxic dish soap in less than 5 minutes!

As you start researching DIY non-toxic recipes for your home, you will start to notice a trend of ingredients. With coconut oil, Dr. Bronner’s liquid castile soap, Vegetable glycerin, Vitamin E oil, baking soda, vinegar and jojoba oil, you can make a TON of non-toxic stuff for your house. So stock up on those and add in the essential oils of your choice!
